The crossover SUV segment is surging in popularity among UK motorists, and the new Mazda CX-5 is at the head of the pack. The vehicle blends style and function superbly well, while its performance is deservedly award-winning.
The crossover perfectly encapsulates all the features of a hard-working off-roader and merges them with Mazda's KODO: Soul of Motion design language. A familiar chrome-framed grille and headlamp arrangement are evidence of the styling theme, as are the neat creases that flow across the body. Skirting the vehicle's length are robust mouldings to protect the body when you venture onto more treacherous terrain, and standard 17" alloy wheels will make sure the vehicle remains sure-footed.
Complementing the exterior is an interior shaped to link driver and car in new ways. The high ride position and ergonomic layout help achieve this, with all controls located within easy reach so focus can remain fixed on the journey ahead. In front is a soft-touch dashboard that adds to the new Mazda CX-5's premium nature, while luxurious satin chrome and gloss black trim reflect the car's position towards the top end of the market. Passengers at the rear benefit from an abundance of space, thanks to the 40/20/40 Karakuri seat system. You have the flexibility to fold one, two or all seats as per your needs, and increase the 503-litre cargo capacity to a pleasing 1,620 litres.
On top of this high practicality are various infotainment features to keep all occupants entertained and ensure you remain fully connected when mobile. The Mazda Multimedia System combines a CD player with six speakers, USB connectivity, Auxiliary (AUX) input jack, and integrated Bluetooth®, and all functions are controlled through a 5.8" colour touch-screen display. Opt for one of the Nav models for an advanced Mazda navigation system, which includes voice control and TomTom technology.
There's further choice for under the bonnet, specifically a range of SKYACTIV-G petrol and SKYACTIV-D diesel engines. The sole petrol variant is a two-wheel drive 2.0-litre 165ps model that confidently charges from 0-60mph in around 9.2 seconds. The alternative is a 2.2-litre 150ps or 175ps diesel, offered with two or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 175ps AWD manual reaches 60mph from a standstill in approximately 8.8 seconds, while the frugal 150ps two-wheel drive manual returns up to 61.3mpg when driven conservatively.
Another trait the new Mazda CX-5 shares with full-size SUVs is a strong build and therefore reassuring safety performance. Its SKYACTIV-Body absorbs impact forces to protect you and your passengers, and preventing accidents in the first instance are a number of active technologies. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control System (TCS) work to keep the car glued to the road in all conditions, while Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) helps to avoid or minimise low-speed collisions. These features all add up to a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

We're also pleased to announce the Mazda CX-5 has been awarded What Car? Of The Year 2017, Best Large SUV less that £25,000, following it's previous win in 2016 for the same award.
What Car?, 2017 say "Mazda's SKYACTIV Technology has given the CX-5 some of the lowest CO2 emissions and highest fuel economy figures in the class, beating those of rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. However, the Mazda CX-5 also has the space to rival them, because its interior is large and the boot a generous size. It handles exceptionally well for a large SUV
, too, while the amount of standard equipment you get is plentiful considering the car’s relatively low price.”
