Am I eligible for the Motability Scheme?

Social security benefits which qualify you for a Motability Scheme car are used to make the monthly payments. These will either be part or all of the total benefit amount you receive, depending on the vehicle you choose.

There are four different benefits which you can put towards your new car:

  • The Higher Rate Mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • The Enhanced Rate for Mobility on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • The Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • The War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement

Please note that Attendance Allowance is not eligible – nor are the Standard/Basic Rates of PIP and DLA.

To fully qualify, you need to have at least 12 months of benefits payments remaining.

If you are a carer, you can act as appointee and apply on the behalf of a child over three years old claiming DLA. The person receiving the eligible benefits does not have to drive the vehicle – up to two drivers can be named for free.
