The head-turning Swift from Suzuki has plenty of admirers, and its sporty appeal is heightened by its still more vibrant Swift Sport variant. Both deliver an exciting drive and a well-equipped cabin, yet there's very little compromise on efficiency and economy.
Both the standard Swift and the Swift Sport hug the road confidently, and stand out with sweeping headlights plus alloy wheels and front fog lights on selected models. Distinguishing the two is a one-part grille on the Swift Sport alongside three fins cut into the front fog light housing. The Sport also gets a three-door shape, while the standard Swift can be chosen with three or five openings.
The cabin offers ample space for even tall passengers, and the generous boot can grow significantly by folding the rear bench, depending on your needs. The regular Swift features durable cloth upholstery and an intuitive dashboard arrangement, while the Sport adds a leather-coated steering wheel and stainless steel sports pedals. You can set the preferred driving position using the adjustable steering wheel and driver's seat, and will always find the Swift's controls close to hand.
When buying from new, six separate trim grades are offered with the Swift and one with the Sport alternative. Standard kit includes an audio system with USB connectivity and steering wheel-mounted controls, with satellite navigation a feature of the SZ4, SZ4 4x4 and Sport models. There's also a DAB digital radio, Bluetooth® interface and keyless entry with these high-end variants.
As you would expect, the Swift Sport comes fitted with a more powerful engine when compared to its sibling, namely a 134bhp 1.6-litre petrol. The unit is married to a six-speed manual gearbox to power from 0-60mph in around 8.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 121mph. A 1.2-litre alternative with either a manual or automatic box is the powertrain choice for the standard Swift, and it's the preferred option for those wanting more economical performance. The engine returns up to 56.5mpg combined (manual) and emits from 116g/km of CO 2.
With a five-star safety rating awarded by Euro NCAP you can trust the Swift to keep you safe on the road. An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist function is supported by Suzuki's Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) – each included as standard. There are also side impact protection beams, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and multiple airbags.
